Today, from Pakistan to Nepal

The monsoon used to mean relief.
Today, from Pakistan to Nepal, Thailand and India, the rains are arriving in heavier bursts, and summers feel stickier. Muhammad Asif Iqbal, Managing Director of the Social Policy and Development Centre (SPDC), explains that the real problem is not how much rain we get, but when, where and how intensely it falls.
For farmers, that means damaged crops, disrupted sowing and supply shocks that feed straight into food prices. He warns that dry years have risen from 3 in every 10 to 4, even as the risk of extreme flooding remains. The way forward, he says, is preparing before disasters hit, through climate-resilient farming, better water management, early warning systems and protection for vulnerable households. Are we ready for the next monsoon, and how has this season felt where you live?
