TOBACCONOMICS - GLOBAL MEETING FOR RESEARCH ON TOBACCO TAXATION - ISTANBUL - TÜRKIYE

Social Policy and Development Centre (SPDC) and Bloomberg School of Public Health at Johns Hopkins University co-hosted the Tobacconomics Global Research Conference on Tobacco Taxation in Istanbul, Türkiye from 15th-17th October, 2024.  Experts from Asia, Europe, Latin America and USA gathered to present their research and discuss strategy and goals for future tobacco tax policy. Global partners from 25 countries and 6 international organizations shared their experiences regarding tobacco control, tobacco tax research and dissemination of results.

During the course of the event, there were eight panels pertaining to - tax policy change in real time, doing research in the field & in the streets, modeling, utilizing media to promote tobacco tax research & policy reform, reviving tobacco taxation in countries with previous success, innovation in tobacco tax research, illicit trade, researchers collaborating with international governmental organizations for tax. The conference was successfully concluded with a strong commitment demonstrated by the participants towards improving fiscal policies and public health in their countries and around the world.
